Black American Woman

This look was inspired by the news of the insurrection at our nation’s Capitol. I watched as white Americans plowed passed barricade that were opened to them by police and vandalize a structure that represents democracy in this country. Or should I say democrazy. I saw things unfold from the comfort of my home and all I could think was “If these people were Black, they’d all be dead.” Black people are not allowed the same liberties as our melanin deficient neighbors. The sting of anger began to steep in the pit of my belly but I am remembered never to let anyone take your peace. My anger is justified; this I know. But I will continue to work on being less reactionary and more purposeful. Enjoy this look!

Old friends of Her Neck Of the Woods know this jacket was painted by my good friend Pierre Jean-Baptiste. I bought this dress over the summer from Zara and these Ultra-High Jadon Boot from Doc Martens finished this look just right. The leather Black beret from Aldo was the icing on the cake that conveniently hid my unruly new-growth. Have you joined me on my loc journey yet? Check out my progress on Youtube!
